The family or ‘herd’ as they prefer to be known, actively promote family dining, which in turn very much means their dogs, which are welcome anytime inside or out at The Cow Shed. Why not try a Sunday Roast or a speciality dish from their core dine-in menu. We stopped at The Red Lion at Badlesmere for lunch after a beautiful walk around Kings Wood (just a quick 5-minute drive away), and it was an absolute gem of a find.

This historic pub, originally built in 1546 during the reign of Henry VIII, was once a farm dwelling before becoming an inn in 1728. It’s full of charm and character, with a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

We were especially impressed by how dog-friendly it is – four-legged friends are welcome in both the garden and restaurant areas, as long as they’re on a lead and you’re responsible for cleaning up after them. They even offer doggy biscuits, which was a lovely touch!

The food, though, is the real highlight – absolutely amazing and the entire menu is 100% gluten free, prepared in a Coeliac UK accredited kitchen with a 5-star hygiene rating.

Highly recommend stopping in – whether you’re walking, exploring the area, or just looking for a fantastic meal in a cosy, dog-friendly pub with a bit of history.
